This authentic 1940s style Lewis ice bag is the ideal way to make crushed ice for your favorite juleps, Moscow mules and mojitos.

    Overview

This authentic 1940s style Lewis ice bag is the ideal way to make crushed ice for your favorite cocktail, including juleps, Moscow mules, mojitos, swizzles and mists.

Just partially fill the Lewis bag with ice and use a mallet, muddler or something else heavy to make cocktail-ready crushed ice with the perfect consistency. The canvas material absorbs the excess water, which keeps it out of your drinks. You’ll be amazed at what one little canvas bag can do.

I felt stupid buying this, because I could have made one myself or kept crushing ice in a dish towel. But now that I have it, I feel stupid that I put off buying it that long. Not only is it handy for crushing ice and pouring into glasses, it’s also useful for collecting cobble ice (the tiny cubes) from the tetchy trays. I’m going to add a little grommet on the tag so I can hang it on a nail.

Save the towels for drying things....this bag is a great addition to the bar, allowing you to make a proper cocktail at home. I used to use towels for crashing ice--glad to have a purpose made bag for it.

I love the ritual of pounding on a Lewis Bag to make my own crushed ice. The rituals of cocktail creation are as important as the flavor and the refreshment. Machine crushed ice couldn't possibly taste as good as home made, could it? I already have the mallet, however I need a new Lewis bag so I can pound to my hearts content. This looks like a fine one.
